David Siah, vice president, South East Asia-Australia, Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence in cybersecurity has created unprecedented workforce challenges, particularly in software engineering where AI-powered coding tools are reshaping traditional roles.

The transformation of traditional software engineering roles through AI-powered coding assistance has raised questions about workforce displacement and future employment patterns. Organizations must now balance technological advancement with ethical responsibilities and employee welfare.

"It [AI] has reformed the way we think about work, especially in terms of the kind of job experiences that our customers or the users have in terms of how many years they've worked in the industry," said David Siah, vice president, South East Asia-Australia, Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies. "Data transparency and privacy is a big issue. But for me personally, the ethics on employability and what do we do with the surplus capacity as a result of the productivity introduced by AI will form one of our biggest challenges."

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the GovWare Conference and Exhibition 2024, Siah also discussed:

  • The challenges of AI-powered threat detection and response systems;
  • How organizations can align with varying international AI regulations;
  • The future of AI governance and the concept of AI monitoring AI.

Siah is a cybersecurity board advisor and is actively involved in promoting cybersecurity activities in the APAC region. He is also the vice chairman of the APAC executive council of the Cloud Security Alliance and chairman of its Singapore Chapter. Previously, he was the country general manager of Trend Micro Singapore and Indonesia.
