Cybersecurity risks in the media and entertainment sector are as diverse as the universe of media content. Third-party risk, for example, is a significant threat in the entertainment industry, where sensitive content and key assets are scattered among multiple entities across the supply chain.

Dilip Joshi, senior general manager of technology at Shemaroo Entertainment, set up the company's cybersecurity strategy from scratch and says media companies should not only protect content that flows across various channels but also the user data attached to it.

"We reviewed our agreements with third-party providers to determine the checks and balances we have in place and the security practices we had in the existing environment and included addendums where we found gaps," he said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at ISMG's Dynamic CISO Excellence Awards and Conference, Joshi also discusses:

  • Complying with government privacy and data security regulations;
  • Balancing budgets and cybersecurity requirements;
  • Meeting implementation challenges.

Under Joshi's guidance, Shemaroo Entertainment was among the first media organizations in India to set up a complete security practice, with a focus on end-user data protection, data leakage prevention and secure transactions. He has nearly five years of experience across multiple roles in the company and previously worked as a senior manager at Essel Infraprojects, supporting enterprise solutions and digitization projects.
