Addressing digital payment security challenges requires having good identity verification capabilities as well as a strong authentication process that's friction-free for consumers, says Singapore-based Gautam Aggarwal, senior vice president and regional CTO-Asia Pacific, at Mastercard.

In an interview with Information Security Media Group, Aggarwal also describes Mastercard's fraud-fighting initiatives. "To reduce the risks of cyberattacks, we have built a fusion center with the sole objective of monitoring attacks on a network of all our stakeholders using artificial intelligence and machine learning," he explains.

In this interview (see audio link below photo), Aggarwal offers insights on:

  • Technologies used to secure contactless and card-not-present transactions;
  • A collaborative approach with the stakeholders to help combat rise in cyberattacks;
  • Enabling third parties to align with appropriate security processes.

As the regional CTO for Mastercard, Aggarwal is responsible for leading the technology and service operations in the Asia Pacific region. He spearheads Mastercard's technology investments in China, India, and Indonesia and the real-time payments infrastructure hub for the region. He also works across functional stakeholders to drive the innovation and delivery of regionally relevant but globally scalable technology solutions across the Mastercard product and services portfolio.
