Beyond this, looking at the organization's cybersecurity stature holistically and the push toward vendor consolidation are two other key aspects, Thakkar says.

"It's one thing to say best of breed, but then you have 20 technologies in your organization, and you don't know how they connect with each other," Thakkar says. "Everyone is now talking ecosystem. I would advise organizations that are still buying point solutions and not looking at an overall strategy to really start moving in that direction."

Vijendra Katiyar, country manager for Trend Micro in India & SAARC, echoes these sentiments, "When it comes to vendor consolidation, practitioners today need to ensure that cybersecurity strategy is not an afterthought - when you are building things, make sure that security is imbibed in the fabric."

In this exclusive interview with Information Security Media Group, Thakkar and Katiyar discuss:

  • Where cybersecurity practitioners are lacking and lessons learnt;
  • Key cybersecurity tech areas they expect will gain traction;
  • Strategic cybersecurity challenges industries must prepare for in 2023.

Thakkar is a seasoned leader in the security industry, having served in leadership roles at top-tier technology firms. He is also the co-inventor of three patented technologies, a published author of a book and various articles on information security.

Katiyar has more than 16 years of experience in various capacities within the technical, sales and consulting arenas of the cybersecurity industry. As a tech-security enthusiast, he has been a key speaker at major IT security forums.
