Varsha Sewlal on Data Protection Framework ComplianceOfficer at Information Regulator South Africa Discusses Cybersecurity Reforms in the Region
Ensuring compliance with the data protection framework is one of the big challenges for enterprises in South Africa, says Varsha Sewlal, the executive officer for legal, policy, research and information technology analysis and the deputy information officer with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
"You find the companies, both private sector and public sector, grappling with ensuring this compliance," says Sewlal. "Some of that deals with understanding what the data protection framework expects from you and how you unpack it and making sure there are officers who understand the implementation of the data protection and cybersecurity framework."
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Sewlal also discusses:
- Top concerns for enterprises in their digital transformation journey;
- How the Protection of Personal Information Act is being followed in South Africa;
- Cybersecurity trends expected in 2022.
Sewlal is the officer for legal, policy, research and information technology analysis and the deputy information officer with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
